Japan Reports Radioactive Water Leak at Fugen Nuclear Site

(MENAFN) Water containing radioactive material has leaked at the decommissioning site of the Fugen nuclear reactor in Fukui Prefecture, central Japan, on Tuesday.

The incident has raised concerns that several workers may have been exposed to radiation, according to local reports.

As noted by a broadcaster, tritium levels rose during dismantling operations at an auxiliary building of the prototype advanced thermal Fugen reactor in Tsuruga City, which has been undergoing decommissioning.

Authorities confirmed that no impact on the surrounding environment has been detected, the report added.
