Man Handed Down Death Sentence for Murdering Four in Japan
The Nagano District Court ruled the man guilty of fatally stabbing two local women before opening fire with a hunting rifle on two officers from the Nakano Police Station who responded to the scene in May 2023.
Prosecutors had demanded capital punishment, asserting the defendant bore full legal responsibility for the attack. Meanwhile, his defense argued he suffered from diminished mental capacity and should be spared the death penalty, media reported.
The court dismissed the defense’s claim of reduced mental capacity, holding the defendant fully responsible for the killings. The ruling emphasized the severity and brutality of the crimes, stating that the nature of the acts ruled out any possibility of leniency, according to media.
